Day 1 arrival Moscow
You will arrive in Moscow by plane. At the airport you wil be picked up and taken to your hotel. Depending on your flight time, you wil have time to explore the city. But also a walk by night through illuminated Moscow is spectaculair and it will surprise you how much there is to do in the lively streets of Moscow.
Day 2 Moscow / walking tour Kremlin and Red Square
On today's program: a city-tour through Moscow. With a guide you'll be walking through the city center. During the tour you can ask your guide questions about his or her life in Russia, various social issues and politics.

The first stop is the famous and historical Kremlin in the very heart of Moscow. Back in the days the Russian dukes and czars lived here, now it is the official residence of the president.
Then you will visit the Armory and the Cathedral with its imposing walls. In the Armory you can see the old regalia of the state. It shows the beautiful ceremonial robes of the Tsar and has the largest collection of Russian gold and silver weapons. After this visit you'll start walking to the the Red Square. Walk around on the square and see the most beautiful tourist attractions of Moscow: the colorful St. Basils cathedral, Lenin's Mausoleum and the interesting State Historical Museum. Walk along Nikolskaya street to see the beautiful building of the Bolshoi theater. 

After the city tour you'll have time to explore the city by your self. Take a ride with the metro to see the beautiful metro stations, one of the highlight's of a visit to Moscow. The stations take you back to the communism past. Moscow also has a lot of shopping area's for the shopaholics. Enjoy delicious food in one of the many top restaurants. Or just wander the streets and take in the Russian city life. 
Day 3 Moscow / metro and markt tour with a local
A local English speaking guide will show you the Moscow of the residents. You will go underground and discover the specatuculair metro. You will visit several sations. Be amazed by the fantastic architecture and the propaganda and listen to the Soviet stories of a local. Your guide will tell you about life during the Soviet period. You also get to taste the Russian pancake, a Russian local delicacy. After the tour underground you will explore the city again. Visit Stalin's skyscrapers (the "7 sisters") and get an idea of what happened behind these walls.

Did you like the pancake? Cause it's time to explore more Russian delicacys. You will get an introduction to the culture of traditional Russian cuisine and get you acquainted with some of Russian's most loved (and devoured) traditional dishes. Your guide will take you to the Danilovsky neighbourhood in  Moscow. You will visit the bustling market where you can can see the daily life of the real Muscovites! Get ready to eat like a Russian and taste what locals like to eat on special occasions. Learn what Russian cuisine is all about and also discover the foods of countries that once belonged to the USSR.

Day 4 Moscow / visit Tretyakov gallery
Today you will visit the Tretyakov gallery, an extensive museum complex. An English speaking guide will take you along masterpieces of Russian art of the 11th - early 20th century. The museum houses worlds biggest collection of fine Russian art and iconographic masterpieces. In 1856 the gallery was founded by Pavel Tretyakov. He acquired works by Russian artists to preserve them. Tretyakov’s perserve over more then 2000 pieces which you can see now in the museum collection. 

See the famouw paintings Black Square by Kazimir Malevich, Girl with peaches by Valentin Serov, Trinity by Andrey Rublev and many more! The tour takes about three hours.

The afternoon is free at leisure.
Day 5 Moscow - night train to St. Petersburg
During the day more time to explore the city of Moscow.
At the end of the day you will board on the night train to St. Petersburg. Overnight in a sleep cabin in the train.
Day 6 St. Petersburg / city tour and visiting Hermitage
In the morning, arrive in St. Petersburg by train. The upcoming days you'll have time to explore this facinating city. You'll start today with a guided tour through the city. During the tour you will pass beautiful and impressive buildings. But you will also pass small, cozy cafes and bars and discover the sprayed graffiti on courtyards and side streets. Next stop is the main street of St. Pestersburg, Nevsky Prospect. Along this street you can find and endless amount of shops, restaurants and hotels. Visit the Kazan Cathedral, one of the most impressive churches of Nevsky. Take pictures of the colorful and breathtaking Church of the Savior on Blood. 

The Hermitage museum is considered as one of Russia's most famous attractions. Built in the 18th century by the Italian architect Rastrelli. The six buildings of the Hermitage form an impressive faade along the embankment of the River Neva. You will visit the museum this afternoon. It is one of the largest and oldest museums in the world. The collection boasts an incredible three million works of art, from the Stone Age to the 20th century. The Winter Palace is the principle edifice of the museum and former home of the Tsars. A guide will take you along the most famous pieces of Degas, Monet, Matisse, Pissarro, Velazquez, Picasso, Egyptian antiques and prehistoric art. 
Day 7 St. Petersburg / excursion Peterhof
In the morning a guide will pick you and take you to the Peterhof palace. Peterhof, often referred to as the Russian Versailles is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The estate itself is a collection of majestic palaces and colorful gardens near St. Petersburg. Used by the Russian Tsars as a summer residence for more than 200 years. It was built at the behest of Czar Peter the Great as a party place. Royal gatherings, big parties, balls, concerts and masks took place here in the 18th and 19th centuries. Visit Monplaisir and the Grand Palace and walk around in the gardens with its 150 shimmering golden fountains. Monplaisir Palac a baroque buidling was Peter the Great’s favorite. It houses an art gallery, as well as a collection of Chinese porcelain and pottery. Peterhof is a beautiful place complex with a magical athmosphere and the view on the Finnish gulf completes the picture.
Day 8 St Petersburg / excursion Tsarkoe Selo and boat tour
A guided tour shows you the spectaculair Catharina palace. The palace is named after Peter the Great’s second wife. For two centuries the Tsarskoye Selo was a grand imperial summer residence. The palace is a splendid example of the Russian Baroque. Enjoy the lavishly decorated blue and white facades with golden ornaments. During the reign of Elizabeth, more than 100 kilograms of pure gold was used to gild its facade! The interior of the palace will not disappoint you either. Decorated with gold and arranged in the same axis making one Golden enfilade. Walk around the enfilade of magnificent halls and state rooms with luxurious decorations: the large hall, the white state dining room, the portrait hall with special portraits of both Catherine and Elizabeth, the gallery in which almost every inch of the wall is covered with paintings from 17th and 18th century and the absolutely world-famous Amber room. The beauty of the Catherine Palace is it's magical interiors and rare objects of arts and crafts and demonstrates the work of prominent architects and artists.

In the afternoon you will make a boat tour through the city of rivers and canals. Getting around by boat in St. Petersburg is definately one of the best ways to enjoy the beauty of the city. By water you will get a different view of the city and it's stunning architecture.

In the evening you could walk around St. Petersburg to watch raising the bridgs. St. Petersburg drawbridges opening and closing is a spectacular show. This happens every day and it's so impressive that both locals and tourists come to the beautiful illuminated bridge. An evening on the waterfront is definitely a good way to relax, meet new people and to listen to the street musicians!
Day 9 St. Petersburg / departure
Depending on you flight time a transfer will bring you to the international airport of St Petersburg for your flight back home.
